I am a UI/UX Designer, Consultant, and Frontend Web Developer with over 23 years of experience working out of Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Toolsets Used
- Figma
- Figma*
- Asana
- Adobe XD
- Wave Accessibility
- InVision App
*I repeated this on purpose. Figma does everything, and I USED it for everything this year: layouts, vector artwork, css authoring. What a tool. If Adobe buys it I’ll be in trouble.
A Battle of Tools
Adobe has the unfortunate honor of developing tools for all sorts of artists and designers with Photoshop, Illustrator and XD all leading the industry, really by default. Although Photoshop still is almost ubiquitous for editing photos for digital and traditional output, XD and Illustrator both have at least two strong, inexpensive and wholly capable competitors.
Design Tools
Affinity Publisher, Designer and Photo came on the scene a few years back and have proven to be plenty capable tools for page layout, vector-based drawing and design, and photo editing, in that order.
InVision App has mainly put it’s eggs in the team collaboration cart with it’s Freehand collaboration app.
UX, Prototyping and Digital Product Design Tools
Figma has continued to really define itself as not only a web design tool and vector drawing tool, but also a strong hi-fi prototyping tool and even CSS writing frontend dev tool.
